Jazeera Daily

Information is coming in regarding Maldivians who have been trained in the manner of suicide attacks, and these cases are being investigated, said the Maldives Police Service.

Speaking at a press conference, Assistant Commissioner of Police Abdulla Riyaz said that they have received this information from various sources, and that they were now working on confirming these reports.

RIyaz said that the five people who have been released so far from among 16 suspects detained, were released after investigations confirmed that they had no hand in the terror attack. He said that SIM cards taken in their name were used in the attack.

"But they had not been using those SIMs" Riyaz said.

Riyaz said that the house raided near Zikra mosque turned up some items connected with the bombing incident. He said that there have been attempts to hide some items related to this incident with the aid of the families of the suspects and said that this was a crime under terrorism law.

He said that some of the items collected as evidence in this case are now being tested at FBI laboratories. Riyaz said that the two suspects they are searching for, Ali Shameem and Abdul Latheef Ibrahim, are likely hiding in the country.
