Seven parties submit proposals for Berinmadhoo

Seven parties have submitted proposals on Monday expressing their interest in developing Haa Alifu atoll Berinmadhoo as a tourist resort.

The rents proposed by the parties were revealed at a ceremony held at Nasandhura Palace Hotel. The highest rent for the 200-bed resort for a 10 year period, US$ 7,387 per bed on average, was proposed by Ahmed Ibrahim Didi of Ma. Niyaz Villa. The advance rent for the resort is set at US$ 5 million along with an additional US$ 2.5 million in four instalments.

11 parties had brought the bid documents for Berinmadhoo development. The island of Berinmadhoo had been cleared and its residents moved to another island this year in preparation for development as a tourist resort.

Under the Net Present Value marking scheme 45 percent of the total marks goes to the rent, priority to employing locals and training is awarded 35 percent, and health insurance is awarded 20 percent marks.
