| DATE: 2007-10-10 | HNS
Police on Monday night uncovered a large cache of narcotic drugs buried in Fuvahmulah.

The cache was discovered during a special operation being conducted by the Police to curb the trafficking of drugs in the island. Police said that the drugs they had found on Monday night had been packed in packets and ready to be sold.

According to Fuvahmalah Police Station the packets had been buried in a shallow hole under a tree in an isolated area of the island. The cache consisted of 72 pieces of brown sugar, 29 packets of hash oil and a pill believed to contain hash oil, Police said. Police did not reveal the weight of the drugs that had been found.

“We were monitoring the activities of some suspected drug dealers and checked the area that they had been frequenting last night when we discovered the drugs,” a Police official said. “By the time the Police arrived in the area the suspects had fled. A part of the plastic bag which had contained the drugs was sticking out of the hole in the ground.”

Last Sunday, in another special operation conducted by the Police, they had discovered a large amount of cash in addition to narcotics also. Three people had also been arrested during the drug bust.
