Muggers steal more than Rf 100,000 from office boy

An employee from a well-known company in Male was on his way to make a deposit at Bank of Maldives when he was attacked by two muggers who stole the bag he was carrying which contained more than Rf 100,000, yesterday.

Mohamed Jaaiz, the Sales Manager of Muni Enterprises which operates many shops in Male’, said yesterday that the muggers had attacked the staff member of the company who had been carrying Rf 105,000 and several cheques in a bag, around 10:00am Sunday. The two muggers had been on a motorcycle and had snatched the bag away from the Muni employee near Jamaluddin School. He said that the robbers had stolen the money that had been collected from the company’s shop last Thursday and Friday.

“The office boy was on his way to deposit the money when two people on a motorcycle stopped him and assaulted him,” Jaaiz said. “They hit on the face and threw him to the ground before dashing away with the stolen money. More than Rf 100,000 was stolen. There were several cheques inside the bag too in addition to the cash.”

He said that they had not found out who had stolen the money yet but that the Police was on the case.
