Booking Lodges in Taupo
Do you like this story?
It's in the middle of the North Island of New Zealand and some might say booking one of the world class lodges in Taupo is a little like booking a stay in the heart of the island. Indeed many of the places on offer sit close to or on the lake which, shaped a little like a heart, is the centre of a beautifully scenic part of the country.
While there is a small city in Taupo, when looking at the area to find a good place to stay, it's a good idea to cast your net a little wider, depending on whether you'll have transport or not. Some of the more rural boutique accommodation offers you a high standard in terms of both the room and the service from your hosts, but also can provide you with tremendous views that you won't be able to match anywhere else. These places can be found in the southern parts of the thermal belt in the Bay of Plenty, moving down close to Rotorua and then travelling down the country to the borders of Tongariro national park.
Like Rotorua, Taupo offers several spots where there is active thermal activity. In fact there are a few places where the the edges of the lake are warm year round due to the thermal activity at the edges (the lake is actually a volcanic crater). Some of the lodges in Taupo either sit on or near natural springs that you can use for your own enjoyment and relaxation.
If you are a keen fisherman than there are plenty of places to hook the big one in the area. The Tongariro River and the lake are both popular places for those who enjoy putting on a pair of waders and getting out into the water to catch rainbow trout. If you prefer taking your sport out on the green there are several world class golf courses you can take a swing at. Alternatively you might want to try some of the thrilling outdoor horse treks, bungy jumping and rafting on offer in the area.
Of course after all that time outside you'll be ready to enjoy slipping into your sheets in a comfortable bed, and then have a bumper breakfast such as on offer at one of the lodges in the Taupo area. You'll feel refreshed and energised and ready to get out and explore all over again.
