Kirkby Lonsdale - A Great Location For a Holiday Lodge
Do you like this story?
Kirkby Lonsdale is situated approx 30 mins drive from Lake Windermere in the Lake District and can be reached along the A 65. charming town, Kirkby Lonsdale is steeped in history and has buildings dating back to the 18th century. Famous landmarks include Devils Bridge, built in 1370 and so named; legend has it by an old women seeing the devil who offers to build a bridge in return for the first soul to cross it, a ploy that was foiled by the old women throwing bread for her dog to fetch so defeating this ploy.
John Ruskin, the famous author famously wrote about the view from the church of St Mary's as being one of the most beautiful in England after seeing the picture painted by the artist Constable, a view now known as "Ruskin's
View" which looks right down the valley of the river Lune.
John Ruskin penned these words some hundred years ago about the valley and these ring true to this day
"...the valley of the Lune at Kirkby Lonsdale is one of the loveliest scenes in England, therefore in the world. Whatever moorland, hill and Sweet River, and English forest foliage can be at their best is gathered there; and chiefly seen from the steep bank, which falls to the streamside from the upper part of the town itself. There a path leads from the churchyard, out of which Turner made his drawing of the valley, along the brow of the wooded bank to open downs beyond - I do not know in all my own country, still less in France and Italy, a place more naturally divine, or a more priceless possession...."
During the last 10 years or so the popularity of owning your very own holiday home has increased dramatically and whilst a caravan offers an excellent option nothing really compares to a lodge or log cabin. Residential parks offer the very best of both worlds with on site facilities whilst still enjoying the feel of the country side.
Kirkby Lonsdale boasts such a park and it is located approx 10 mins walk from the centre of Kirkby.
Woodclose Holiday Park
Set within the beautiful valley of the River Lune between the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District National Park. Woodclose Park is a quiet and serene place, providing a unique holiday base in an area of outstanding natural beauty.
The Park is well laid out in an area of outstanding natural beauty, with a number of hard-standing and grass pitches for touring caravans, motor homes, a secluded camping field for tents, onsite self catering Wigwams for hire, as well as an exclusive holiday home and lodge development. Set within nine acres, the outlying fields provide habitats for a rich variety of animals, birds, flora and fauna.
A quiet and serene place, set within a slight hollow leading down to the spectacular Devil's Bridge and the picturesque market town which is steeped in history with a 13th century charter for fairs, a school dating back to Elizabeth I, it even warrants a mention in the Doomsday Book of 1086.
The quality of the lodge accommodation is superb which boast upvc double glazing, fully fitted kitchens and plasma TVs offering a real home from home environment.
Unlike a caravan which does deteriorate over time the benefit of owning a lodge is it can be maintained and kept up to a high standard affording years and years of quality holiday accommodation.
